Discover Social Rec!

The Social Recreation (SocialRec) area is the center piece of the Alamosa Club and serves as a multi-use space where members can play games, eat snacks, or just hang out and do homework or socialize with friends between program sessions.

There are various games, such as pool and air hockey, as well as numerous board games that can be checked out by members for group play. You also never know when a Karaoke Session might break out. It's a fun, safe space, monitored by Youth Develop Professionals, where members can unwind a bit and just be kids.

SocialRec allows members to practice social engagement and game play skills, which builds confidence and promotes positive social interactions in various ways. An article by the American Academy of Pediatrics (January 2007) points out that, "Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Play is important to healthy brain development. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them."

SocialRec compliments learning from other program areas, such as Character Building, Education (Homework, STEM), Healthy Eating & Lifestyles, Technology (Computer, Music), and Physical Fitness. It provides members with an area where they can share experiences and build valuable communication skills that benefit them later in life.
