This Privacy Policy explains how the Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley (“BGCSLV,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information from visitors to our website (the “Site”) and from donors and supporters who interact with us online.

By using the Site or providing information to us, you agree to this Policy.

1) What We Collect

Information you provide directly

  • Contact details (name, email, phone, address).

  • Donation details (amounts, frequency, honor/memorial info).

  • Program inquiries, volunteer interests, event registrations, and messages.

  • Testimonials, stories, images, and media you submit (with permissions).

Information collected automatically

  • Device and usage data (IP address, browser, pages viewed, timestamps, referring URLs).

  • Cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies & Analytics” below).

Sensitive & youth information

  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.

  • Program enrollment/intake for youth occurs outside this Site under separate notices and consent forms.

2) How We Use Information
  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Site.

  • Communicate about programs, events, impact, and opportunities to give.

  • Process donations and send receipts/acknowledgments.

  • Comply with legal, accounting, and reporting obligations.

  • Protect our community, prevent fraud, and ensure Site security.

  • Honor your communication preferences (e.g., email opt-outs).

3) Donor Privacy
  • We do not sell or trade donor personal information.

  • We may share donor information with trusted service providers (e.g., payment processors, email/CRM tools) solely to process transactions and manage communications.

  • Donor names may be recognized publicly unless you request anonymity.

4) Cookies & Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site, remember preferences, and measure engagement. We may use analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) that collect IP addresses, device identifiers, and usage patterns to help us understand Site performance. You can manage cookies via your browser settings. Some features may not function without cookies.

5) How We Share Information

We share information only as needed to support our mission and operate the Site:

  • Vendors/Processors: website host, payment processors, analytics, email/CRM, and IT/security providers under confidentiality obligations.

  • Legal/Compliance: to comply with law, enforce policies, or protect rights/safety.

  • Organizational Changes: in rare cases of restructuring or asset transfer among controlled affiliates aligned to our mission, subject to this Policy.

We do not sell personal information for money. We also do not knowingly process personal information for “targeted advertising” as defined by the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA). If that changes, we will update this Policy and provide required opt-out mechanisms.

6) Colorado Privacy Rights (CPA)

Colorado residents may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we maintain about you.

  • Correct inaccuracies in your personal data.

  • Delete personal data you provided or we obtained.

  • Data portability (a copy in a portable format).

  • Opt out of (i) sale of personal data, (ii) targeted advertising, or (iii) certain profiling (not currently practiced by BGCSLV).

How to exercise your rights: Email info@bgcslv.org or mail PO Box 1032, Alamosa, CO 81101 with “Privacy Request” in the subject/letter. We may need to verify your identity. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision within 45 days; we will review and respond with our reasoning and additional options, including contacting the Colorado Attorney General.

7) Your Choices
  • Email marketing: Unsubscribe using the link in our emails or contact us.

  • Cookies: Control via your browser settings; you can also use industry opt-out tools for analytics.

  • Anonymity in recognition: Ask to remain anonymous in donor listings.

8) Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; risks remain on any website.

9) Data Retention

We keep personal information for as long as necessary for the purposes described above, including legal/accounting obligations (e.g., donation records), and then securely delete or de-identify it.

10) Children’s Privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 via the Site without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us online without consent, contact info@bgcslv.org and we will delete it.

11) Third-Party Links

Our Site may link to external websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices or content. Review their policies before providing information.

12) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy. The “Effective Date” reflects the latest version. Material changes will be noted on the Site; continued use indicates acceptance.
